The Nigerian Railway Corporation has raised alarm over a surge in attacks on train operations, urging communities along railway corridors to take an active role in safeguarding rail infrastructure. The agency said residents must report suspicious activities and help deter vandalism, warning that continued incidents threaten passenger safety and national transport systems. 
According to the corporation, multiple attacks have been recorded in recent weeks, particularly along the Abuja–Kaduna rail corridor, including areas in Kaduna State. Officials revealed that at least six separate incidents have occurred, posing serious risks to both passengers and railway personnel while also disrupting operations. 
The NRC described the attacks as economic sabotage, stressing that they undermine government investment in the rail sector and could lead to service disruptions if not urgently addressed. While train services are still running with enhanced security measures, the agency said stronger collaboration between communities, security agencies, and stakeholders is now critical to preventing further incidents. 
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining safe and efficient rail services nationwide but warned that sustained protection of railway assets depends heavily on community cooperation, especially in vulnerable areas where vandalism and criminal activities persist.
