There are growing indications that Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso may leave the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as opposition politics ahead of the 2027 elections continues to shift rapidly. Reports suggest that discussions around their defection are at an advanced stage, although no final confirmation has been made. 
Sources within the opposition camp indicate that the move is largely driven by the ongoing leadership crisis and legal battles within the ADC, which have raised concerns about the party’s stability and ability to field candidates within tight electoral timelines. Some insiders claim the decision is nearly settled, with only a formal announcement pending, while others caution that it remains a possibility rather than a certainty. 
The Nigeria Democratic Congress has also clarified that while discussions are ongoing with key political figures, including Obi and Kwankwaso, no official defection has been confirmed, describing the situation as being in the realm of probability.  Political analysts say the potential move could significantly reshape the opposition landscape, especially as parties race against deadlines set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for primaries and candidate submissions.
