\n\nThe Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority has called for immediate upgrades to facilities at Gombe Airport to ensure smooth operations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage. The appeal was made during a visit by NCAA officials to the Gombe State Government, where they acknowledged ongoing improvements but stressed that more work is needed to meet international aviation standards. 
Key areas identified for urgent attention include aviation lighting systems, firefighting equipment, and modern navigation technology to support safe aircraft take-off and landing. Officials noted that these upgrades are critical as the airport prepares to handle increased traffic from pilgrims traveling to Saudi Arabia. 
In response, the Gombe State Government said it has already begun infrastructure work, including a ₦600 million project for fencing and renovations, although earlier delays were linked to plans for a possible federal takeover of the airport. Authorities assured that once the NCAA submits its full report, further steps will be taken to address gaps and ensure readiness for the Hajj airlift.
