Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has accused elements within the All Progressives Congress (APC) of planning to disrupt the August 15, 2026 governorship election, claiming the opposition is acting out of fear of losing at the polls. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, the governor alleged that some APC figures were exploring “anti-democratic means” to influence the outcome as their popularity declines. 
Adeleke cited internal surveys he claimed were conducted by the opposition, suggesting the APC’s support had dropped below 30 percent, while his approval ratings ranged between 68 and 72 percent. He argued that this perceived imbalance has pushed the opposition into desperation, including attempts to manipulate political alignments and destabilise the electoral process ahead of the vote. 
However, the APC has strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as baseless and a sign that the governor is already anticipating defeat. Party spokespersons insisted the ruling camp is losing key political figures and public support, urging residents to disregard the claims as political rhetoric. With the election approaching, the exchange highlights rising tensions and deepening rivalry between both camps in the lead-up to a crucial contest in Osun State.
