\n\nThe Nigeria Police Force has arrested a serving officer over the fatal shooting of a suspect in Effurun, Delta State, following widespread outrage triggered by a viral video of the incident. Authorities confirmed that the officer has been transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation and disciplinary action.
Police officials described the killing of the suspect, identified as Mene Ogidi, as a violation of operational rules, noting that the officer allegedly discharged his weapon improperly while the suspect was already in custody. The force condemned the act and reiterated its stance against extrajudicial killings and abuse of power.
The incident has intensified concerns about police brutality in Nigeria, especially as reports suggest the victim may have been restrained at the time of the shooting. Authorities say the officer will face an internal disciplinary process and possible prosecution, while assuring the public that justice will be pursued and accountability enforced.
