A Nigerian court has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and a commercial bank to present CCTV footage as evidence in the ongoing trial of a former employee accused of misappropriating ₦1 million. The order is part of efforts to clarify how the alleged transaction occurred and determine the defendant’s role in the case.
The court specifically requested surveillance footage from the bank’s premises, where the transaction in question was said to have taken place. This move followed arguments from the defence, which challenged aspects of the prosecution’s case and insisted that video evidence could help establish the true sequence of events surrounding the alleged fraud.
Legal observers say the directive underscores the growing reliance on digital and forensic evidence in financial crime trials, especially in cases involving bank transactions. The matter has been adjourned to allow both the EFCC and the bank to comply with the court’s order, with the outcome of the CCTV review expected to play a key role in determining the defendant’s fate.
