No fewer than 300 members of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps have begun a week-long specialised training focused on rules of engagement, human rights, and conflict resolution. The programme, organised by the Kukah Centre, is part of a broader initiative to improve community-based security operations across the state. 
The training covers standard operating procedures, alternative dispute resolution, and legal frameworks, with participants drawn from all 34 local government areas in Katsina. It is being implemented under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria (SPRiNG) programme in collaboration with development partners, aiming to promote professionalism and accountability among local security outfits. 
Officials say the initiative is timely, given the persistent security challenges in northern Nigeria and the increasing reliance on community vigilante groups. Authorities believe the training will strengthen coordination with formal security agencies and ensure that personnel operate within the law while improving service delivery and public trust.
