The family of slain NYSC member Abdulsamad Jamiu has rejected the Nigerian Army’s explanation of how he died in Abuja, calling for a full, independent investigation into the incident. 
Army’s Version
The Nigerian Army initially stated that Jamiu was killed by a stray bullet during a gunfight between soldiers and suspected armed robbers in the Dei-Dei area of Abuja. 
Family’s Counter-Claim
The family strongly disputes this, insisting that:
• Jamiu was shot inside his room, not caught in crossfire. 
• The bullet reportedly came through a closed door, suggesting it was fired from outside. 
• There was no evidence of a gun battle no recovered weapons or signs of exchange of fire. 
They described the Army’s account as “false and misleading”, arguing it does not match physical evidence or eyewitness claims. 
Serious Allegations Raised
The family further alleged that:
• Soldiers entered the compound at night and shot him while he was asleep. 
• Only one shot was heard, contradicting claims of a gun duel. 
• The scene may have been tampered with, raising concerns about evidence handling. 
They also questioned the Army’s narrative, asking:
• Where are the alleged robbers?
• Why was lethal force used without clear confirmation of threat?
Demands from the Family
The family is now demanding:
• A transparent and independent probe (not handled solely by the military)
• Prosecution of those responsible
• A retraction and public apology from the Army
