Gunmen Kill Three Mourners, Kidnap Two in Benue Attack
\n\nAt least three people have been killed and two others abducted after armed men attacked mourners returning from a burial in Benue State. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Sati-Ikov Council Ward, Ushongo Local Government Area, highlighting ongoing insecurity in the region.

According to local accounts, the victims were ambushed near their community while heading home from the burial. The attackers reportedly opened fire on the group, killing three individuals on the spot, while abducting a man and a woman. Residents said the gunmen also robbed victims during the attack.

The lawmaker representing Ushongo Constituency, Simon Gabo, confirmed the incident and expressed concern over the increasing activities of local militias in the area. He revealed that the community has experienced repeated attacks in recent weeks, with multiple casualties recorded even before this latest incident.

Gabo further alleged that the attackers often cross from neighbouring Katsina-Ala Local Government Area to carry out assaults, turning parts of Ushongo into what he described as a “battlefield.”

This attack is part of a broader pattern of violence in Benue and Nigeria’s Middle Belt, where communities continue to face frequent killings, kidnappings, and armed raids, raising concerns about the effectiveness of security measures in affected areas.
