\n\nThe Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has suspended its ongoing strike, bringing relief to students, parents, and schools across Abuja. 
The decision was announced after an emergency meeting of the union’s State Wing Executive Council, following intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. 
According to the union, the breakthrough came after the minister approved a ₦5 billion monthly funding plan to address teachers’ welfare. This includes:
• ₦2 billion monthly from FCT internally generated revenue
• ₦3 billion from 10% IGR contributions of area councils
These funds are expected to cover allowances and outstanding entitlements, including the 40% peculiar allowance. 
The union also said the minister promised to tackle issues around teacher promotions, including reviewing the 2024 exercise and removing restrictions that have delayed career progression. 
Following these commitments, teachers have been directed to resume work on Monday, April 27, 2026, with assurances that no participant in the strike will face victimisation. 
However, the NUT made it clear that the suspension is conditional warning that the strike could resume if the government fails to implement the agreed measures. 
In short: the strike is offfor now but everything depends on whether the government keeps its promises.
