\n\nThe Nigerians in Diaspora Commission has issued an urgent warning to Nigerians living in South Africa, urging them to remain cautious amid a fresh wave of violent anti-foreigner protests across parts of the country. 
According to the advisory, demonstrations in cities such as East London, Cape Town, Durban, and parts of KwaZulu-Natal have escalated into looting, property destruction, and physical assaults. Authorities also warned of planned protests in Gauteng Province, raising fears that the unrest could spread further. 
NiDCOM advised Nigerians to avoid protest areas, refrain from confrontations, and closely monitor local news for safety updates. In some cases, citizens—especially business owners—have been urged to temporarily shut shops and stay indoors to avoid being targeted during the unrest. 
The warning follows disturbing viral videos showing attacks on foreign nationals, including Africans from other countries, with some protesters openly calling for migrants to leave. The commission noted that the situation could worsen, with risks of riots, further violence, and injuries if tensions continue to rise. 
This development highlights the recurring issue of xenophobic violence in South Africa, where economic pressures and anti-immigration sentiment have periodically led to attacks on foreign residents. Nigerian authorities say they are engaging diplomatically with South African officials, but for now, the priority remains ensuring the safety of Nigerians on the ground.
