\n\nTroops of the Nigerian Army have recovered the suspected remains of a soldier couple who were abducted and killed in 2022 during an operation in Imo State. The breakthrough came after soldiers dismantled a camp linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in the Orsu area. 
The operation, carried out on April 24, 2026, targeted a hideout along the Ubaha-Orsu axis. Troops of the 82 Division reportedly came under heavy attack but repelled multiple ambushes and forced the gunmen to flee, successfully taking control of the camp. 
During a search of the area, soldiers discovered shallow graves, which were excavated, leading to the recovery of remains believed to belong to Master Warrant Officer Linus Musa Audu and Private Gloria Mathew. The couple had been abducted and killed in May 2022 while travelling for their traditional wedding. 
The army stated that the recovered remains have been secured and will undergo forensic analysis, including DNA testing, to confirm their identities. Authorities are also working with the families to ensure proper identification and arrange befitting burial rites for the fallen personnel. 
The military described the operation as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks in the South-East and ensure justice for slain personnel. It also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing intelligence to security agencies as operations continue in the region.
