\n\nThe Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, has warned that more Nigerian airlines could shut down despite recent intervention by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to stabilise the aviation sector. 
According to Onyema, the crisis in the aviation industry remains severe, largely driven by the astronomical rise in Jet A1 (aviation fuel) prices, which have surged far beyond global trends. He stressed that many airlines are already struggling financially, noting that operators are “bleeding” and finding it increasingly difficult to sustain operations under current conditions. 
Although Tinubu recently approved measures such as debt relief and discussions to reduce fuel costs, industry players say these steps may not be enough in the short term. Onyema cautioned that without urgent and more comprehensive solutions—particularly around fuel pricing and access to affordable financing—some airlines may be forced to suspend operations entirely. 
The warning follows earlier threats by the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) to halt nationwide flights due to rising operational costs. While that shutdown was temporarily suspended after government intervention, stakeholders insist the underlying issues remain unresolved. 
This situation highlights the fragile state of Nigeria’s aviation sector, where operators face high fuel costs, expensive loans, and multiple regulatory charges—a combination that continues to threaten the survival of domestic airlines despite ongoing government efforts.
