The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has issued a strong warning to a cleric, Isaac Omolehin, over controversial remarks he made about prominent Nigerian church leaders, including David Oyedepo, Enoch Adeboye, and William Kumuyi. 
In a statement signed by CAN President Daniel Okoh, the association described Omolehin’s comments as misleading and capable of causing division within the Christian community. CAN stressed that it would not tolerate statements that undermine church unity or spread unverified claims. 
The controversy stems from a sermon by Omolehin in which he questioned the idea of a single “father” figure in Nigerian Christianity. He argued that figures like Adeboye, Oyedepo, and Kumuyi should be seen strictly as leaders of their respective denominations rather than overall spiritual fathers, also criticizing what he described as competition among churches. 
Reacting, CAN rejected allegations of internal division and financial mismanagement, calling them false and baseless. The body also expressed concern over the use of respected church leaders’ names in ways that could inflame tensions among believers. 
The association issued a final warning, urging Omolehin and others to desist from making unverified or defamatory statements, adding that it may pursue legal action if such comments persist. The development has sparked mixed reactions, with some defending the cleric’s views as constructive criticism, while others see them as disrespectful and divisive.
