The leadership crisis within the Labour Party has taken a decisive turn after the Court of Appeal in Abuja affirmed Nenadi Usman as the legitimate National Chairman, dismissing an appeal filed by Julius Abure. The appellate court upheld an earlier Federal High Court ruling that recognised Usman’s leadership and directed the electoral body to acknowledge her as the party’s head. 
In its judgment, the court ruled that the matter had already been conclusively settled by the Supreme Court, which had nullified the convention that returned Abure as chairman. It stated that there was no legal basis for reopening the dispute, describing Abure’s appeal as lacking merit and an abuse of court process. The court also imposed a ₦10 million fine on him for wasting judicial time. 
The judges further validated the establishment of the caretaker committee led by Usman, describing it as necessary to fill the leadership vacuum within the party. They also backed the authority of the court to direct institutions like INEC to recognise the rightful leadership, reinforcing the legality of earlier decisions. 
Despite the ruling, Abure has rejected the judgment, insisting it is flawed and contrary to legal principles. He has vowed to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court, signaling that the Labour Party’s leadership battle may not be over yet.
