Fresh testimony has emerged in the ongoing trial over the death of Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, as his daughter Gianinna Maradona accused members of his medical team of “total manipulation” in the period leading up to his passing in 2020. 
Speaking in court in Buenos Aires, Gianinna said doctors convinced her and her siblings that their father could safely recover at home after undergoing surgery for a brain clot. She claimed the medical team assured them that the home setting would be properly equipped, presenting it as a serious and viable option. However, she told the court that those assurances turned out to be misleading. 
According to her testimony, “the manipulation was total and horrible,” as the family relied heavily on the guidance of the doctors, who were in charge of decision-making regarding Maradona’s care. She specifically pointed to key members of the medical team, including his neurosurgeon, psychiatrist, and a nurse, accusing them of influencing the family’s choices in ways that may have put his life at risk. 
The testimony forms part of a high-profile trial involving seven medical professionals accused of negligence in Maradona’s death at age 60. Prosecutors argue that inadequate care—particularly the decision to allow him recover at home instead of a medical facility—may have contributed to his death, while the defence maintains that they acted appropriately under difficult circumstances. 
The case remains one of the most closely watched legal battles in Argentina, as Maradona’s family continues to push for accountability over the circumstances surrounding his final days.
