Former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan has responded to recent criticism from former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, acknowledging that he made mistakes while in office but insisting he gave his best during his tenure. 
Jonathan’s response follows remarks by Atiku, who described him as “inexperienced” and suggested that this affected his ability to manage the country effectively while serving as president.  In reply, Jonathan rejected the idea that age or experience defined leadership performance, noting that mistakes are inevitable in governance. 
Speaking at an event in Abuja, Jonathan said no leader can claim perfection, emphasizing that “all human beings must make mistakes.” He pointed out that he became president at 53 and left office at 58, questioning the notion that he was “too young” to lead. 
Despite acknowledging shortcomings, Jonathan defended his record, stating that he made decisions he believed were in Nigeria’s best interest. He highlighted achievements during his administration, including Nigeria’s election to the United Nations Security Council, arguing that such milestones showed he was capable of handling leadership responsibilities. 
Beyond the exchange, Jonathan also used the opportunity to stress that political stability is essential for economic growth, warning that instability across West Africa continues to hinder development in the region.
