The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge before a Federal High Court in Abuja against individuals accused of plotting to overthrow the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The charges, filed by the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, border on treason, terrorism, and related offences tied to an alleged coup attempt. 
According to court documents, the defendants include a retired Major General, a retired Naval Captain, a serving police inspector, and three other suspects. Authorities allege that the group conspired to “levy war against the state” and destabilise the government, with some charges also linked to terrorism financing and failure to disclose security intelligence. 
The case is expected to be heard at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with arraignment scheduled before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik. Investigations by security agencies had earlier uncovered a broader network of suspects connected to the alleged plot, including both military personnel and civilians. 
One additional high-profile suspect, a former governor, was also named in connection with the case but is reportedly at large, with authorities alleging he played a role in concealing aspects of the plot. 
The development marks a significant escalation in the government’s response to coup-related allegations, coming amid heightened security concerns and ongoing efforts to clamp down on threats to Nigeria’s democratic system.
