Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted a consignment of cocaine cleverly concealed inside food flasks at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The illicit shipment, weighing 2.80 kilograms, was discovered hidden in the false bottoms of the flasks and was being prepared for export to the United Kingdom via a Virgin Atlantic flight. 
According to the agency, the interception took place at the airport’s export shed on April 9, 2026. Two cargo agents—Ama Obinna Ufeim (33) and Ogabi Monday Akorede (39)—were arrested on the spot for their involvement in the attempted shipment. Further investigations led to the arrest of a 52-year-old freight forwarder identified as the sender of the consignment. 
In a related operation at the same airport, NDLEA officers also intercepted 2.90 kilograms of “Loud” (a potent cannabis strain) concealed in snack food packs arriving from the United States. Additional suspects linked to that shipment were arrested, showing a broader crackdown on drug trafficking networks using both export and import channels. 
The agency said the discoveries highlight the increasingly sophisticated methods used by traffickers, including modifying everyday items like food containers to evade detection. NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa commended operatives for their vigilance and urged continued efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country.
