The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven suspected militia herdsmen in connection with the abduction of passengers along the Makurdi–Otukpo road, an incident that initially sparked widespread concern over the safety of travellers, including those believed to be linked to the UTME. According to police authorities, the arrests were made during a coordinated security operation targeting criminal hideouts in forest areas around the axis.

Police spokesperson Edet Udeme disclosed that the operation also led to the rescue of some of the kidnapped victims, who have since been taken for medical attention. The arrests followed intelligence gathering and joint efforts by multiple security agencies, with officials saying investigations are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal network.

Further updates from the police indicate that the broader rescue mission has been largely successful, with all victims eventually regaining their freedom. Authorities revealed that some victims were released earlier, while others were later rescued during continued operations, all without reported fatalities.

The development marks a significant breakthrough in the case, which had earlier heightened fears over insecurity on the route. Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal groups operating in the area, while urging the public to continue providing useful information to support ongoing operations.
