Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is now the country’s most credible opposition force, capable of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections. He made the statement in a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, where he described the party as strong in structure, ideology, and determination.
Atiku stated that the ADC has “risen as Nigeria’s true opposition force,” emphasizing that it possesses the organisational strength and unity needed to challenge the APC. He expressed confidence that the party is well-positioned to confront what he described as a “failing” government in the next election cycle.
The former vice president also revealed that he recently hosted ADC stakeholders from Adamawa State at his Abuja residence. During the meeting, he urged party leaders to prioritise unity, inclusiveness, and fairness, stressing that internal cohesion would be critical to building a strong platform capable of winning national elections.
The statement comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027, with several opposition figures rallying around the ADC as a potential coalition platform to challenge the APC. Analysts note that while the party is gaining prominence, its ability to overcome internal challenges and maintain unity will be key to its chances in the next general election.
