Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has denied any involvement in the 2018 Offa bank robbery case, following fresh criminal charges filed against him by the Kwara State Government. Saraki described the new charges as politically motivated, insisting they are part of a wider effort to tarnish his image and silence opposition voices in the state. 
Reacting through a statement, Saraki maintained that he had already been cleared by earlier investigations into the robbery incident, which led to the deaths of multiple people during coordinated attacks on banks in Offa in 2018. He argued that revisiting the case years later amounted to harassment and an abuse of the judicial process, alleging that the move was driven by political interests rather than fresh evidence. 
The Kwara State Government, however, recently filed a 20-count charge against Saraki and other individuals linked to the case, including allegations bordering on culpable homicide. The government claims the charges are part of efforts to ensure accountability for one of the deadliest bank robbery incidents in the state’s history, which reportedly left about 30 people dead. 
The renewed legal battle has reignited political tensions in Kwara State, with supporters of Saraki insisting the case is being used to target him politically, while authorities maintain that the prosecution is based on ongoing judicial processes. The matter is expected to continue in court as both sides present their arguments over the validity of the fresh charges.
