The Ogun State Police Command has once again summoned nine kingmakers in Ijebu-Ode over allegations of bribery and financial inducement linked to the selection of a new Awujale of Ijebuland. The invitation, issued through the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, requires the kingmakers to appear on separate days next week as part of an ongoing investigation into the controversial succession process. 
A senior police source confirmed that the summons is a continuation of earlier probes into claims that money and other inducements may have influenced the selection process. One of the affected kingmakers, Chief Abimbola Okenla, acknowledged the invitation and expressed frustration over repeated questioning, describing the allegations as unfounded and a distraction from their traditional duties. He also appealed to the Ogun State Government to allow the kingmakers conclude the process without further interference. 
The controversy surrounding the Awujale stool has persisted for months following the death of the late monarch, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, in 2025 after a long reign. The selection process has been repeatedly halted amid petitions, security concerns, and allegations of irregularities. Authorities had earlier suspended the process to maintain order and preserve the integrity of the revered traditional institution, with multiple aspirants contesting for the throne. 
Despite the ongoing investigations, stakeholders within Ijebuland continue to call for a transparent and timely resolution, as the prolonged delay in appointing a new monarch raises concerns about leadership and stability within the traditional system. The police, however, maintain that the invitations are part of a fact-finding effort aimed at ensuring fairness and accountability in the selection process.
