A chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has claimed that key figures within the party, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti, have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027. Arabambi, who serves as the party’s National Vice Chairman (South-West), made the statement during a television interview, asserting that there is an internal consensus within sections of the party leadership to align with Tinubu’s re-election bid. 
According to him, the decision is tied to the principle of political rotation, arguing that the presidency should remain in the South-West to complete what he described as an eight-year cycle. He stated that both the party’s national leadership and Governor Otti had “agreed in principle” to support Tinubu, insisting that the arrangement reflects broader political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections. 
Arabambi also dismissed discussions about the possible return of the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Labour Party, saying such a move would not happen. He claimed that internal agreements within the party, influenced by ongoing leadership crises, had already ruled out that possibility. 
The remarks have added a new dimension to the evolving political landscape, particularly within the Labour Party, which has faced internal divisions since the last general election. Analysts note that Arabambi’s comments may not reflect a unified position across the party, as debates over alliances, leadership control, and future electoral strategy continue to shape opposition politics ahead of 2027.
