The Katsina State Government has launched new nutrition intervention facilities as part of efforts to combat the rising cases of child malnutrition across the state. Governor Dikko Radda announced the establishment of two stabilisation centres alongside 60 Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) sites spread across 12 local government areas. The initiative is designed to improve access to treatment for children suffering from severe acute malnutrition, particularly in underserved communities. 
According to the governor, the stabilisation centres—located in Daura and Baure—will provide free medical care for critically malnourished children, while the OTP sites will focus on early detection and treatment at the community level. The programme also involves extensive grassroots engagement, with hundreds of trained health workers and community volunteers deployed to identify and manage cases promptly. Officials say the move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare and reduce preventable child deaths linked to malnutrition. 
Radda, however, issued a strong warning against the diversion or illegal sale of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a key component in treating malnourished children. He announced the approval of a mobile court to prosecute offenders, stressing that anyone caught tampering with or selling the life-saving supplies would face immediate legal consequences. The government also introduced accountability measures to ensure that nutrition resources reach their intended beneficiaries without interference. 
The initiative is further backed by increased funding and partnerships with development agencies, including support under the Accelerated Nutrition Results in Nigeria programme. Health officials revealed that the state has committed hundreds of millions of naira to strengthen nutrition services, upgrade healthcare facilities, and expand outreach programmes. The intervention comes amid growing concerns over malnutrition rates in northern Nigeria, where thousands of children continue to face life-threatening conditions due to inadequate access to food and healthcare.
