A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Nyesom Wike has taken control of the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja following its reopening by the police. The development comes after months of internal crisis within the party.

The takeover happened after the Nigeria Police Force unsealed the PDP headquarters, known as Wadata Plaza, and handed it over to a leadership led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Samuel Anyanwu in compliance with a court ruling. The faction warned that it would not tolerate any disruption or breakdown of order at the secretariat going forward.

The crisis stems from a long-standing leadership battle within the PDP, which escalated into clashes between rival factions backed by key political figures, including some governors. A Court of Appeal ruling in March reportedly favoured Wike’s camp, nullifying a rival convention and paving the way for this latest development.

Following the takeover, the Wike-aligned leadership praised the police for enforcing the court decision and urged aggrieved members to embrace unity. The move signals a possible turning point in the PDP’s internal struggle as political alignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections.
