At least 10 people have been killed following a fresh bandit attack in Zamfara State, highlighting worsening insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West region.
The attack occurred on Friday evening in Bunkasau village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area, where heavily armed bandits stormed the community on motorcycles and operated for over an hour. Residents said the attackers shot indiscriminately, leaving multiple casualties and several others injured.
Locals also claimed that security response was delayed, despite attempts to alert authorities during the нападение. One resident said help only arrived after the attackers had already left, raising concerns about response time and protection for rural communities.
The incident is part of a recent surge in violence across western Zamfara, particularly in areas like Bukkuyum and Anka, which have seen repeated attacks in recent weeks. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling banditry, but the latest killings underscore the persistent security challenges facing the state.
