The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has thrown its weight behind the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), insisting that courts do not have jurisdiction over internal political party disputes. 
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the NBA’s recent warning against judicial interference validates its position in the ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC. The party argued that attempts to challenge its leadership in court are legally defective and violate provisions of the Electoral Act, particularly those restricting courts from вмешling in party affairs. 
The ADC went further to describe such legal actions as an abuse of court processes, accusing some actors of “forum shopping” and trying to weaponise the judiciary for political gain. It maintained that the dispute is not a legitimate legal issue but a coordinated effort to destabilise its leadership through improper judicial means. 
The party also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to remain neutral and avoid recognising or acting on court orders obtained in violation of the law. It warned that ignoring legal boundaries could undermine democratic institutions and processes ahead of the 2027 elections. 
Overall, the ADC emphasised that respecting the limits of judicial authority is crucial to protect the rule of law and preserve Nigeria’s democracy, echoing the NBA’s broader concerns about growing political interference through the courts.
