Former Lagos State governorship candidate, Funso Doherty, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The announcement was made during an ADC meeting and confirmed by party mobilisation supporters, with Doherty stating that he is seeking to become the next governor of Lagos State. His declaration marks a renewed return to the ADC platform after previously leaving and rejoining other political parties in past election cycles. 
According to reports, Doherty, a public policy advocate and 2023 Lagos governorship candidate, returned to the ADC following internal divisions in his former party. He also used the opportunity to criticise governance gaps and inequality in Lagos, positioning himself as part of an opposition effort to reshape leadership in the state ahead of 2027. 
Doherty had earlier contested the 2023 Lagos governorship election under the ADC before moving to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and his latest move signals another strategic shift as political realignments intensify ahead of the next general election. 
Overall, his declaration adds to early political activity in Lagos, where major parties are already positioning candidates and building coalitions ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive 2027 governorship race.
