A Nigerian politician and security consultant, Aliyu Gebi, has been arrested by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) over allegations that he supplied false intelligence reports to foreign embassies in Nigeria. 
According to reports, Gebi—who served in the 7th House of Representatives—was detained on April 3, 2026, and later granted bail. Security sources claim the intelligence he allegedly shared created panic among international stakeholders, with some airlines like Lufthansa reportedly cancelling flights to Nigeria, while others considered similar actions. 
The situation also had wider diplomatic implications, as the same intelligence was said to have influenced a United States travel advisory, which warned its citizens about security risks in Nigeria and allowed non-essential staff to leave. Nigerian authorities have since disputed the advisory, insisting it does not reflect the full security picture. 
However, Gebi has denied the allegations, insisting he did not provide false intelligence or act against Nigeria’s interests. He stated that he was not arrested but only invited for questioning, and described the claims as a distortion of his contributions to national security discussions. 
The case highlights growing concerns about information integrity, national security, and international perception, especially at a time when Nigeria is facing increased global scrutiny over its security situation.
