Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has called on Nigerians to take collective responsibility for fixing the country, warning that progress will remain difficult without unity and active participation from citizens. He made this statement during a colloquium themed “The Future of Nigeria” held in Lagos. 
Obasanjo stressed that nation-building is a shared duty, not something that can be left solely to government or political leaders. He emphasized that everyone—from ordinary citizens to professionals and policymakers—must play a role in addressing the country’s challenges. According to him, expecting miracles without collective effort is unrealistic. 
He also highlighted the importance of youth involvement, innovation, and technology, describing Nigeria’s large youthful population as a major advantage that must be properly harnessed. While acknowledging the country’s challenges, Obasanjo maintained that Nigeria still has a promising future—if citizens unite, stay accountable, and actively contribute to development.
