Top opposition figures including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso led a peaceful protest at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja. The demonstration, organised under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), was sparked by INEC’s decision to withdraw recognition of the party’s leadership amid an internal crisis. 
The protest, which also featured prominent politicians such as David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Aminu Tambuwal, and Rotimi Amaechi, saw participants carrying placards with messages like “Let democracy breathe” and “We say no to a one-party system.” Protesters accused INEC of bias and warned that its actions could undermine Nigeria’s multi-party democracy. 
The demonstration is part of a growing political standoff linked to the ADC’s leadership dispute, with opposition leaders insisting that INEC’s stance could exclude the party from participating effectively in the 2027 elections. While INEC maintains that its actions are guided by legal rulings, the protest highlights rising tensions and signals a broader coalition effort by opposition figures to defend what they describe as democratic fairness ahead of the polls.
