The Nigerian Army has denied claims that its personnel are required to purchase their own uniforms and protective gear, describing such allegations as false and misleading. The response followed viral statements by a dismissed soldier who alleged that troops spend personal funds on items like boots, uniforms, and bulletproof vests. 
According to the Army, the provision of uniforms, weapons, and protective equipment is an institutional responsibility handled through established logistics systems. It stressed that soldiers are properly equipped before deployment and also receive uniform allowances and other benefits, in addition to their salaries. The military added that personnel on operations are entitled to extra allowances to support their welfare and effectiveness in the field. 
While acknowledging that some soldiers may choose to buy additional items for personal comfort, the Army clarified that this is entirely optional and not a requirement. It also urged the public to disregard the claims, warning that spreading unverified information could undermine morale and national security, while reaffirming its commitment to properly equipping and supporting its troops.
