The Nigeria Police Force has reacted to a recent Federal High Court ruling affirming that Nigerians have the constitutional right to record police officers while on duty in public. The police acknowledged the judgement, which has been widely seen as a boost for civil liberties and accountability, and noted that it carries significant implications for policing standards across the country. 
In its response, the police emphasised that officers are expected to operate within the law by wearing visible name tags, displaying force numbers, and avoiding harassment or intimidation of citizens who choose to film them. The force reiterated that professionalism, transparency, and respect for citizens’ rights remain central to its operations, aligning with the court’s directive that public officers must be accountable during official duties. 
However, the development also highlights ongoing concerns about enforcement, as past incidents have shown cases of harassment despite similar legal protections. The ruling is expected to strengthen public oversight of law enforcement, while placing pressure on the police to ensure compliance through proper training, discipline, and internal reforms to build trust with citizens.
