A fresh faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), openly rejecting the authority of the coalition led by David Mark and distancing itself from other rival groups within the party. The faction, led by Don Obinna, claims to represent the party’s legitimate National Executive Committee (NEC) and says it was formed following an emergency NEC meeting held on April 7, 2026. 
The group backed the stance of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which recently withdrew recognition from the Mark-led leadership, arguing that the coalition has no authority to act on behalf of the party. It also dismissed claims surrounding Nafiu Bala’s position, insisting he never held the role attributed to him, and reaffirmed that former presidential candidate Dumebi Kachikwu remains a valid member of the ADC. 
The development further deepens the leadership crisis within the ADC, which now has multiple factions competing for control ahead of the 2027 elections. The new faction accused the Mark-led coalition of attempting to hijack the party for political gain and called on INEC to recognise its leadership, warning that failure to resolve the dispute could weaken the party’s chances and destabilise its role as a potential opposition platform.
