The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned that recent actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) could effectively prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general elections. The party expressed concern that INEC’s refusal to accept its official correspondence may block it from fulfilling key legal requirements needed to field candidates. 
According to the ADC, electoral laws impose strict deadlines—particularly a May 10 submission cutoff—which require timely communication with INEC. However, by declining to receive documents from the party due to an ongoing court case over its leadership crisis, INEC is placing the party in what it described as an “impossible position”, making compliance unattainable. 
The party argued that this situation creates a path to what it called “artificial non-compliance,” which could later be used to justify excluding it from the ballot. ADC officials have therefore urged INEC to reverse its stance and ensure a level playing field, warning that the development could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process as political tensions rise ahead of the 2027 elections.
