A viral video showing the Controller-General of the Federal Fire Service, Olumode Adeyemi, travelling with a large convoy of official vehicles in Kogi State has sparked widespread debate across Nigeria. The footage captured multiple fire service trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, and security personnel escorting him during what was described as a homecoming and thanksgiving visit following his appointment in 2025. 
The display has drawn strong criticism from many Nigerians, especially on social media, who questioned the use of resources by an agency often accused of being underfunded. Critics pointed out the irony that while many fire stations reportedly lack functional equipment, the agency’s leadership was seen moving with an elaborate motorcade. Some argued that funds used for such convoys could instead provide more fire trucks and improve emergency response nationwide. 
However, others defended the convoy, saying it was standard protocol for a high-ranking government official, especially during a ceremonial visit involving traditional rulers and community stakeholders. The debate has since grown into a broader conversation about government spending priorities, accountability, and the state of emergency services in Nigeria, with many calling for reforms and better allocation of public resources.
