Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has signed a $1.2 million lobbying agreement with a United States-based firm as he intensifies political moves ahead of a potential presidential bid under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The deal, filed with the U.S. Department of Justice, is designed to boost his image and influence within U.S. political and policy circles.

Under the agreement, the lobbying firm will help facilitate meetings between Atiku and U.S. government officials, including members of Congress, while also providing strategic advisory on messaging and international engagement. The contract, which spans 12 months and is payable in installments, aims to promote his leadership vision and counter narratives linked to the Nigerian government.

The move comes amid growing political tension within the ADC, where a leadership crisis and legal disputes have complicated preparations for the 2027 presidential election. Analysts say the lobbying effort signals Atiku’s intention to strengthen international backing and position himself strongly in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive opposition ticket battle.
