The Presidency has explained that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met victims of the Plateau killings at the airport in Jos due to logistical and operational constraints, not a lack of concern. According to presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, the airport runway does not support night flights, making it impossible for the President to travel into Jos town, meet victims at the attack site, and return in time for departure before dusk. 
The situation was further complicated by the President’s tight schedule, which included a high-level meeting with Chad’s leader that ran longer than expected and delayed his trip to Plateau. By the time he arrived, time limitations meant security officials opted to bring victims and community representatives to a hall near the airport so he could meet them promptly while complying with flight restrictions. 
Despite criticisms, the Presidency insisted the visit was not merely symbolic, but part of a broader effort to engage stakeholders and address the root causes of recurring violence in Plateau State. Tinubu met victims, listened to community leaders, and assured them of justice, while also discussing long-term security measures aimed at ending the cycle of attacks in the region.
