The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate removal of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the commission of working to undermine Nigeria’s democracy ahead of the 2027 elections. The party alleged that recent actions by INEC are part of a broader plan to weaken opposition parties and create conditions for a one-party state dominated by the ruling All Progressives Congress. 
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, ADC National Chairman David Mark said the party had lost confidence in INEC, describing the commission’s decisions as biased and unlawful. He particularly criticised INEC’s move to withdraw recognition of key ADC leaders, including himself and other party officials, stating that the action violated democratic principles and ongoing court proceedings. 
The controversy is rooted in an internal leadership crisis within the ADC, which has led to multiple court cases and rival factions laying claim to the party’s structure. Despite this, the party insists INEC’s involvement goes beyond neutrality, warning that such actions could erode public trust in the electoral process and threaten credible elections. Analysts say the dispute highlights growing political tensions as Nigeria gradually builds toward the 2027 general elections.
