The Federal Government has declared Good Friday and Easter Monday as public holidays to mark the Easter celebration across Nigeria. The announcement, made through the Ministry of Interior, aligns with the country’s tradition of observing key Christian holidays as work-free days nationwide.
For 2026, Good Friday falls on April 3, while Easter Monday is observed on April 6, giving Nigerians a long weekend to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The holidays are part of Nigeria’s officially recognised public holiday calendar and are typically accompanied by religious activities, travel, and family gatherings. 
The government usually uses the occasion to urge citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice, love, and unity associated with Easter, while also encouraging peaceful coexistence among Nigerians. As with previous years, the declaration reinforces the importance of religious observances in national life and provides an opportunity for rest and celebration across the country.
