Senate President Godswill Akpabio has officially declared three seats in the Nigerian Senate vacant following the deaths of serving lawmakers. The announcement was made during plenary, with the development described as a tragic loss to the 10th National Assembly. 
The affected constituencies include Enugu North, Nasarawa North, and Rivers South-East senatorial districts. The vacancies arose after the demise of the senators representing these regions, prompting the Senate to act in line with constitutional provisions governing such situations. 
Akpabio has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct by-elections to fill the vacant seats within the timeframe stipulated by law—typically around 30 days. Analysts say the upcoming elections will be closely watched, as they could influence political dynamics in the affected states and test party strength ahead of future national contests.
