During the 2023 presidential campaign, former Bola Tinubu — then the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate — declared at a rally in Osogbo that his supporters and the South‑West political bloc were responsible for electing leaders in the past and would again succeed in replacing the incumbent administration. His remarks, delivered in Yoruba at Freedom Park, emphasised confidence in AP C’s chances and urged supporters to turnout and “emerge victorious” at the polls. 
Tinubu’s speech touched on broader campaign promises, including job creation and vocational training for the unemployed, a register for youth seeking work, and support for students unable to afford school fees. He framed these pledges as part of a vision for economic opportunity and national development under his prospective administration, while also encouraging grassroots mobilisation across regions. 
The messaging reflected APC’s strategic focus on consolidating regional alliances — particularly between the South‑West and the North — ahead of the 2023 general election, in which Tinubu ultimately won the presidency. Analysts later noted that such rhetoric was aimed at energising core support bases by invoking political partnerships and shared responsibility for previous electoral victories.
