A tragic incident has occurred in Kano State, where a woman identified as Hafsatu Yusuf died hours after giving birth to quintuplets at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital. The Kano State Ministry of Health confirmed that she successfully delivered five babies—three boys and two girls—before her condition suddenly deteriorated shortly after childbirth. 
According to health officials, the cause of death was severe postpartum haemorrhage, as the mother experienced continuous bleeding that medical personnel were unable to control despite intensive efforts. She reportedly died less than 24 hours after delivery, turning what was initially celebrated as a rare and joyful medical event into a heartbreaking loss for her family and the community. 
Authorities have confirmed that all five newborns are currently in stable condition and receiving specialised care at the hospital. The Kano State Government has also pledged to support the infants’ welfare, while appealing to the public for assistance with essential supplies, as the incident highlights ongoing concerns about maternal health and emergency care in Nigeria.
