The Federal Government has announced the disbursement of ₦75 billion to 104 manufacturing companies and an additional ₦65.8 billion to Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as part of efforts to strengthen businesses and support economic growth in Nigeria.
The development is aimed at helping local manufacturers improve production, expand their operations and overcome some of the financial challenges affecting businesses across the country.
The Minister of State for Industry disclosed that the funding is part of the government’s efforts to improve access to affordable financing for businesses, particularly those involved in local production and industrial development.
For many Nigerian manufacturers, access to funding remains a major challenge. High operating costs, unstable electricity supply, expensive raw materials and limited access to loans have continued to affect production and business expansion.
Small businesses also face difficulties securing loans from financial institutions, especially those without sufficient collateral or a strong financial record.
The latest intervention is expected to provide some financial relief to selected businesses, support job creation and encourage more local production.
However, questions remain about how effectively the funds will reach beneficiaries and whether the intervention will produce lasting improvements in the business environment.
Industry stakeholders have repeatedly called for policies that go beyond financial assistance, including reliable electricity, better infrastructure and easier access to affordable credit.
The success of the programme will ultimately depend on proper monitoring, transparency and how well the funds translate into increased production, employment opportunities and business growth.
