The Lagos State Government has warned motorists and commercial drivers against reckless driving during the ember months, urging road users to prioritise safety as the festive season approaches.
The Lagos State Safety Commission has launched a road safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents and preventing avoidable loss of lives during the period.
The warning comes as increased movement of people, goods and vehicles is expected across the state in the coming weeks, particularly as residents prepare for the end-of-year festivities.
According to a report published by Punch Newspapers on Thursday, October 29, the commission urged motorists to exercise caution and avoid dangerous driving practices that could put other road users at risk.
The ember months, which generally cover the final months of the year, are often associated with increased travel, commercial activities and heavy traffic on major roads.
Authorities have continued to emphasise the importance of responsible driving, particularly among commercial vehicle operators who regularly transport passengers and goods across Lagos.
Motorists are encouraged to obey traffic regulations, avoid excessive speeding, maintain safe distances between vehicles and ensure their vehicles are properly maintained before embarking on journeys.
The campaign also highlights the need for drivers to remain attentive while driving and avoid behaviours that could lead to road accidents.
The Lagos State Government has repeatedly urged residents to take personal responsibility for their safety and the safety of others, especially during periods of increased traffic.
The latest warning forms part of efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic-related incidents across the state as the year draws to a close.
