President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, to ensure the timely release of all funds approved for Nigeria’s regional development commissions. The President issued the directive on Monday while addressing the North Central Development Commission Summit, held under the theme, “The Great Leap Forward: A 20-Year Economic Infrastructure and Social Development Plan for the North Central Region.” Akume, who represented Tinubu at the event, conveyed the administration’s commitment to strengthening regional development and ensuring that financial resources reach the commissions as required.The President stated that the regional development commissions were established as part of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which seeks to accelerate economic growth and improve infrastructure across the country. He emphasised the importance of providing the North Central Development Commission and other regional bodies with the political and financial support needed to execute major development projects. According to him, the commissions are expected to help unlock Nigeria’s economic and industrial potential by addressing infrastructure gaps and promoting sustainable growth in different parts of the nation.Tinubu’s directive is expected to reinforce the Federal Government’s efforts to promote balanced regional development through improved funding and institutional support. The regional commissions are tasked with driving projects that can create jobs, strengthen local economies and improve living standards. By calling for the release of approved funds when due, the President underscored the need for effective coordination and timely financial backing to ensure that development plans translate into tangible benefits for communities across Nigeria.
