President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed his condolences following the death of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Mohammed Tukur, who passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 90. In a condolence message issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Tukur as a towering figure whose contributions to Nigeria spanned public administration, politics, industry and pan-African business leadership.Tinubu praised the late elder statesman for his commitment to public service, describing him as an urbane and generous man who believed in Nigeria’s potential. The President noted that Tukur’s career included serving as Governor of the old Gongola State, Minister of Industries and General Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority. He also acknowledged Tukur’s leadership roles in the African Business Roundtable and the NEPAD Business Group, as well as his contributions to Nigeria’s political development as PDP national chairman between 2012 and 2014.The President extended his condolences to Tukur’s family, the Fombina Emirate, the Adamawa State Government and the political and business communities in Nigeria and across Africa. Tinubu prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family and associates the strength to bear the loss. Tukur’s death has drawn tributes from political leaders and organisations, with many recognising his decades of service and influence in Nigeria’s political and economic affairs.
