President Bola Tinubu has welcomed Nigeria’s formal admission as the newest National Member Committee of the World Energy Council (WEC), describing the milestone as a major endorsement of the country’s ongoing energy reforms and growing influence in Africa’s energy sector. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President said the membership positions Nigeria to play a more active role in shaping global discussions on energy security, sustainability and equitable access to energy. He added that the development reflects increasing international confidence in Nigeria’s commitment to transforming its energy industry.
Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for the newly inaugurated WEC Nigeria, describing it as a neutral platform that will promote policy dialogue, attract investment and encourage innovation across the energy value chain. He congratulated the Chairman of WEC Nigeria, Abdulrazaq Isa, the Chief Executive Officer, Bala Wunti, and members of the inaugural governing board, urging them to provide effective leadership as Nigeria strengthens its participation in global energy governance.
