Ademola Lookman scored his first league goal of the season as Atlético Madrid secured a convincing 3-1 victory over Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán on Saturday. Álex Baena opened the scoring early before Lookman doubled Atlético’s advantage in the 26th minute, finishing a move created by Pablo Barrios. Baena then added his second before half-time to put the visitors firmly in control.
Sevilla improved after the break and pulled one goal back through Miguel Sierra in the 66th minute, but Atlético defended their advantage to claim all three points. The victory gives Diego Simeone’s side seven points from their opening three league matches, moving them to the top of the early La Liga standings.
For Lookman, the goal represents an important moment in his early Atlético career after Simeone had acknowledged that the Nigerian is more effective playing as a winger or second striker rather than as a central forward. The manager had previously admitted he made a mistake by deploying Lookman centrally in Atlético’s opening matches.
